Yes, there are many, many books about nutrition, and how adopting a clean, generally grain and sugar free diet can help heal the gut, and by extension, radically reduce the symptoms of fibro. But this one by Tyler Graham & Drew Ramsey (check out their bio pics too, tasty), is worth seeking out. It starts with some brilliant (and seriously shocking!) information on the modern American diet (MAD), and why it is so bad for us, then moves on to key foods/ingredients that we should be eating much more of, why they are so good for us, and finishes with loads of easy, delicious recipes to incorporate into our daily life.
I felt pretty clued up about this stuff before reading it, but still learnt loads of new info, including some good dinner party soundbites. Did you know for example, that in the 18th century, the average person ate 5 pounds of sugar a year, whereas in 2000, it was 152 pounds (that’s 52 teaspoons a day)! Euch!
Top tip for fibro sufferers, particularly those that suffer from restless leg (I did) – you need much more iron in your diet, particularly of the heme (meat) variety – that means more grass fed beef/duck/liver, but also, surprisingly, clams and shellfish!
